Acta FAQ: where your data lives, whether you need to log in, how to back up
Status: Acta is coming soon to the App Store. This page describes how the product is designed to work.
Acta is a daily record and review app. Records are saved only on your device by default. If you turn on iCloud sync (a Pro feature), they go into your own iCloud. Acta's server checks membership and stores purchase records. It doesn't store the content of your records.
Account and login
Do I need to log in?
Login is optional. If you sign in with Apple, the server uses it to link your purchase records.
Data and privacy
Where are my records stored by default?
Only on your device.
What happens if I turn on iCloud?
Your records go into your own iCloud. iCloud sync is a Pro feature.
What does Acta's server store?
It checks membership and stores purchase records. It doesn't store the content of your records.
Are anonymous stats and crash reports on by default?
No, they're off. You turn them on yourself in the privacy center in Settings. Paywall display and purchase reporting to a third-party subscription service aren't controlled by that switch.
Moving phones and backups
How do I back up or export my records?
Go to Profile → Settings & Tools → Backup & Export and export the full data. You get a JSON file saved on the device. It's a local file, not a cloud backup.
Will my records be there after I switch phones?
If you turned on iCloud sync (Pro), they're in your own iCloud. Without it, use the exported file as your backup.
Subscription and pricing
What's free, and what does Pro add?
You can start free and upgrade to Pro when you need it. iCloud sync is part of Pro. Pro is a monthly or yearly auto-renewing subscription; prices and trials are shown on the App Store payment page.
